Identity Guidelines

Identikit

The guidelines that follow provide an essential design toolkit to establish this new identity. The guidelines cover signage, vehicles, uniforms, stationery, literature, forms and other items. The aim is to replace, over time, the array of existing identities within NHS organisations with the single NHS identity while avoiding wastage and unnecessary expenditure.

Advertising

These guidelines set out how the identity should be applied to advertising.

They provide general guidance on how the identity should be used in a variety of different media, including:

  • recruitment
  • press & posters
  • bus sides
  • television

In order to present a cohesive look
and raise the NHS’s profile in Scotland
in a consistent way, it’s critical that
these guidelines be observed.

Forms

These guidelines define the parameters for designing forms.

They provide general guidanceon how large the identity should appear and where it should be positioned, as well as demonstrating recommended layouts. Whether you’re an administrative member of staff designing forms on PC or a professional designer using a Mac, you’ll find all the core identity assets you need on this website.

Literature

These guidelines set out how the identity should be applied to literature and should be read along with the general identity information.

The purpose of these guidelines is to encourage people to use the new identity consistently, without curbing individual creativity. They show where the identity should be positioned and how large it should appear on various different formats of literature, as well as providing typical grids for internal and external layouts. Colour, typeface and the use of sub-identities are all covered.

Livery

These guidelines set out how our identity should be applied to vehicles, uniforms and other branded items.

Vehicle models and individual uniforms differ, of course, so these guidelines aren’t intended to be too rescriptive. Instead, they lay the foundations for developing a communications style covering identity, colour and typography.

Signage

These guidelines set out how the identity should be applied to signage and capital build projects.

Every architectural environment requires due consideration, so these guidelines aren’t intended to be prescriptive in terms of specification, planning, manufacture and installation. Instead, they lay the foundations for developing a communications style covering identity, colour and typography.

Stationery

On the following guidelines, you’ll find detailed layouts for, and instructions on how to use, the stationery in the templates section of this website. These include Agendas, Minutes, Action Points, Media Information and Reports. We’ve also included a version of the letterhead template to enable you to email attachments in colour.

The templates have all been designed to work in Word 97, the most commonly available software in the NHS. If you have an earlier version of Word, please consult your IT department.
